Have you ever been to a clothing swap? "Schwopping", if you will, is really gaining popularity as a great way to save money and minimise textile waste. Usually, friends come together (there may or may not be wine and cheese involved) and bring their unwanted items of good quality clothing. Everyone gets the opportunity to go through everyone else's items to see if there is something they'd like to take home for themselves. Typically, the leftover garments will then be passed on to charity. It's a super fun way to spend a night with your gal pals and if you've never tried it, then why not start one up? It's great fun.

Another alternative to the concept is the charity clothing swap: sort of the same thing except on a MUCH bigger scale. You bring your unwanted but good quality items, swap them for a token and you can then exchange those tokens for the unwanted items of others to take home for your very own. Similarly, the left over garments at the end as well as the profits will be donated to a worthy charity in need of support.

The fantastic Cat from Re-leaf Decluttering will be sponsoring just such an event on the 8th of July at Leederville Sporting Club (check our events page for details). You'll be able to take down any items you've fallen out of love with, exchange them for tokens and bag a bargain from the hundreds of other such unloved items just waiting for a new life in your closet. The items still unclaimed at the end of the day will be donated to the Women's Refuge and Men's Outreach Programs and all the profits raised will go to the Cat Haven and Dog's Refuge Home. Brilliant, hey?

So show your support and lock this one away in your diaries. There will be a gold coin donation to enter, $2 sausage sizzle, drink specials and loads of great quality second hand clothes to explore. Contact Cat at Re-leaf Decluttering on Facebook if you need more information.

See you there!
